Group Treatments

Welcome

Here at the Centre for Psychology & Emotion Regulation, we’ve developed a variety of therapeutic groups designed to address diverse needs and foster personal growth in a supportive setting. Each group provides a structured environment where participants can connect with others who share similar experiences and goals.

Whether you’re looking to enhance your skills in managing emotions through our DBT Skills Group or seek specialized support through our OHIP-Covered ED Groups for eating disorders, we offer tailored options to meet your needs. Led by experienced professionals, our groups aim to promote growth, healing, and community.

Group Based Programs

Our group based programs are ideal for individuals looking for a less intensive treatment option or who need to add a skills class as an adjunct to other therapy. Please note that those with current suicidal and self-injurious behaviours, and those with more complex clinical presentations, respond better to our comprehensive treatment models and may not be suitable for skills-only programming.

Focuses on developing core DBT skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness in a supportive, collaborative setting. This group requires a 6-month commitment and can be completed as part of our full comprehensive DBT program, or as a stand alone skills-only treatment plan (note: not all clients will be suitable for skills-only). Cost is $135/group session.

We are currently offering 2 different OHIP-covered eating disorder groups, beginning the second week of September. Led by our Psychiatrist, Dr. Waisman, these groups offer support, psychoeducation, and strategies to help address symptoms and explore recovery. Cost is free (as long as participants have a valid health card and MD referral).

Eating Disorders Support Group Information

An 8-week group focusing on increasing mindfulness skills, drawing on DBT, RO-DBT and Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness, to learn how to increase awareness and self-regulation and to develop your own practice of mindfulness. The skills will be taught from a trauma informed perspective, and each week will offer experiential exercises, education and practical tools designed to integrate mindfulness into daily life. Cost is $85/class.

An 8-week trauma-sensitive yoga program that provides a safe and gentle approach to the practice of yoga that aims to build confidence, establish safety in the body, and lessen trauma response symptoms. The self regulation skills taught during this program can positively impact PTSD symptoms by increasing body awareness (interoception) in a safe and controlled way, which can promote feelings of physical, emotional, and psychological safety.

This group runs from September 18th, 2024 to November 6th, 2024 and classes run from 5:15-6:45 pm at Nook Yoga (119 Dunlop St. East (Lakeside Entrance) Barrie, ON L4M 1A6). Cost is $85/class.
